By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe winter-related elements in stories and poems.
Materials and Prep
- Winter-themed storybooks or poems
- Blank paper and crayons
- Access to a window to observe the winter weather
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Read a winter-themed story or poem together and discuss the elements of winter in the text. Encourage the student to point out things they recognize from the winter weather outside the window.
- Have the student draw a picture of their favorite part of winter. Ask them to describe their drawing and write down what they say.

- "Winter is a season when it gets very cold and we see snow outside. Can you tell me what you like about winter?"
- "In the story we read, what did the characters do in the snow? Do you like to do those things too?"
- "What did you draw in your picture? Can you tell me about it?"
