Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and pronounce basic phonics sounds and recognize simple words.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Alphabet flashcards, picture cards of objects, whiteboard and marker
Prep: Familiarize with the phonetic sounds of the alphabet and prepare the picture cards of objects for the activities.
Activities
1. Alphabet Sound Matching: Show the student an alphabet flashcard and ask them to make the corresponding phonetic sound. Repeat for multiple letters.
2. Object Sound Matching: Show the student a picture card of an object and ask them to identify the beginning sound of the object's name. For example, "What sound does 'apple' start with?"
3. Word Building: Use the alphabet flashcards to help the student build simple words. For example, use "c-a-t" to form the word "cat" and ask the student to read the word aloud.
Preschool Grade Talking Points

- "Now let's look at some pictures of things. What sound does 'ball' start with? That's right, 'buh' like in 'ball'."
- "Let's try to make a word using our letters. What word can we make with 'c-a-t'? Yes, 'cat'! Good job!"
