Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to express their understanding of snow through music and movement.
Materials and Prep
Materials:
- White paper or cotton balls
- Markers or crayons
- Any musical instrument or objects that can make sound (e.g., pots and pans, shakers, or homemade drums)
Preparation:
- Find a space where the student can move freely and make some noise without disturbing others.
- Prepare some snow-themed images or drawings to inspire the art activity.
Activities
1. Snowflake Art: Have the student create their own snowflakes using the white paper or cotton balls and markers or crayons.
2. Snow Music: Encourage the student to use the musical instruments or objects to create sounds that represent the falling snow, the crunching of snow underfoot, or the wind blowing through the snow.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- "Snow is white and cold. It falls from the sky and covers the ground like a soft blanket."
- "When we listen to the music we make, we can imagine the sounds of snow falling and the wind blowing."
- "Just like we can make different shapes with paper, snowflakes are all different and special, just like us!"
