By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to use their imagination to create and appreciate different forms of art through pretend play.
Materials and Prep
Materials: None
Prep: Familiarize yourself with different types of visual arts and art forms.
Activities
1. Storytelling and Drawing: Encourage the student to create a story and then draw a picture to go along with it. This will allow them to express their creativity through both words and visuals.
2. Pretend Art Gallery: Set up a pretend art gallery using household items as "art pieces". Have the student walk through the gallery and discuss what they see, expressing their thoughts and feelings about each "artwork".
3. Playdough Sculptures: Provide playdough and encourage the student to sculpt their own creations. Discuss the different shapes and forms they create and ask them to describe what they made.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- "Art is a way to tell stories and share our feelings. Let's make our own story and draw a picture to go with it."
- "In our pretend art gallery, we can talk about how each piece makes us feel. What do you think about this one?"
- "When we use playdough, we can make anything we want. What shape are you making? Tell me about it."
