Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the historical context of the Roman Empire and its influence on ancient civilizations, as well as the connection to the Asterix comic series.

Materials and Prep

  • Asterix comic book or online access to Asterix comics
  • Writing materials (pen/pencil, paper)
  • Access to the internet for research (optional)

Activities

  1. Start by reading an Asterix comic book or a specific Asterix story related to the Roman Empire.
  2. After reading, create a timeline of key events in the Roman Empire. Include important emperors, significant battles, and major achievements.
  3. Research and write a short paragraph about one aspect of Roman civilization that interests you the most (e.g., Roman architecture, daily life, or entertainment).
  4. Design a comic strip or storyboard that depicts a fictional interaction between Asterix and a Roman citizen. Use your knowledge of the Roman Empire to make the interaction historically accurate.
  5. Share your comic strip or storyboard with a family member or friend. Explain the historical context behind your creation.
