Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic arithmetic concepts through fun cactus-themed activities.
Materials and Prep
- Counting cards with cactus pictures (1-10)
- Small toy cacti or cactus stickers
- Whiteboard or paper
- Markers or crayons
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Counting Cacti
Show the counting cards with cactus pictures to the student. Start with one cactus and count together up to ten. Encourage the student to touch each cactus picture as they count.
-
Addition with Cacti
Place a certain number of toy cacti or cactus stickers on the table. Ask the student to count them and write the number on the whiteboard or paper. Then, add more cacti and ask the student to count again and write the new number. Help the student understand that adding means combining two groups to find the total.
-
Subtraction with Cacti
Remove some cacti from the table. Ask the student to count the remaining cacti and write the number. Then, remove more cacti and repeat the process. Help the student understand that subtraction means taking away or removing some from a group.
