Materials and Prep

  • Reading materials about the Roman Empire
  • Writing materials (pen/pencil and paper)
  • Access to a computer or library for research (optional)

Activities

  1. Start by reading a short passage or article about the Roman Empire. Encourage the student to take notes while reading to identify key information.

  2. After reading, ask the student to write a summary of what they have learned. This can be a paragraph or a bulleted list highlighting the main points.

  3. Next, have the student create a timeline of important events in the history of the Roman Empire. They can draw the timeline on paper or use a computer program to create a digital version. Encourage them to include dates and brief descriptions of each event.

  4. To further engage the student, suggest they write a short fictional story set in the Roman Empire. They can create characters and a plot that incorporates historical elements. Encourage them to use descriptive language and include details about daily life during that time period.
