Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create useful objects from found materials in nature.

Materials and Prep

  • Various found materials from nature (sticks, leaves, rocks, shells, etc.)
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • String or twine
  • Optional: Paint, markers, or other decorative materials

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Go on a nature walk and collect various materials that catch your interest.
  2. Sort and organize the materials based on their characteristics (size, shape, color, texture, etc.).
  3. Choose a specific object you would like to create using the found materials.
  4. Plan and sketch a design for your object, considering how the materials can be used and combined.
  5. Start assembling your object by using scissors, glue, and string to connect the materials together.
  6. Optional: Decorate your object with paint, markers, or other decorative materials to add your personal touch.
  7. Once your object is complete, reflect on the process and think about how the materials from nature were transformed into something useful.
