Activity 1: Introduction to Design
Start by explaining to the student what design is. Show them examples of different designs found in everyday life, such as logos, packaging, and clothing patterns. Discuss how design involves making choices about colors, shapes, and patterns to create something visually appealing.
-
Activity 2: Design Your Own Flag
Ask the student to design their own flag for a made-up country. Provide them with a blank sheet of paper and colored pencils or markers. Encourage them to think about the colors, shapes, and symbols they want to include in their flag. Let them be creative and explain the reasoning behind their design choices.
-
Activity 3: Cut and Paste Collage
Give the student a sheet of paper and a pair of scissors. Ask them to cut out different shapes from colored paper or magazines. Once they have a collection of shapes, have them arrange and glue the shapes onto the paper to create a unique collage. Emphasize the importance of balance, symmetry, and contrast in their design.
