Objective

This lesson aims to improve attention and retention skills in a toddler grade-level homeschool student through practical arts activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers or crayons
  • Various craft materials (e.g., buttons, feathers, pipe cleaners)
  • Clear workspace

No prior knowledge or experience is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Activity 1: Paper Collage

Ask the student to cut out different shapes from the construction paper and glue them onto a larger piece of paper to create a collage. Encourage them to be creative and use various colors and sizes of shapes. This activity helps improve attention to detail and fine motor skills.

  2. Activity 2: Decorate a Picture Frame

Provide the student with a plain picture frame made of cardboard or foam. Ask them to decorate it using markers, crayons, and craft materials. This activity encourages attention to color and design, as well as hand-eye coordination.

  3. Activity 3: Create a Storybook

Give the student several blank sheets of paper and ask them to fold them in half to create a book. Let them use markers, crayons, and their imagination to draw pictures and tell a story on each page. This activity promotes storytelling, creativity, and attention to sequencing.
