Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and use different types of English grammar in the context of Roman Emperors.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen or pencil
  • Notebook or loose-leaf paper
  • Access to a computer or library for research
  • Prior knowledge of basic English grammar concepts (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.)

Activities

  1. Research and Write: Choose a Roman Emperor that interests you and conduct some research on their life and achievements. Write a short paragraph using descriptive adjectives to describe the Emperor's personality and accomplishments.

  2. Grammar Detective: Read a passage about a Roman Emperor and identify different parts of speech. Underline the nouns, circle the verbs, and highlight the adjectives. Write down your findings and discuss why each part of speech is important in conveying information about the Emperor.

  3. Emperor's Diary: Imagine you are a Roman Emperor. Write a diary entry describing a typical day in your life. Make sure to include a variety of sentence types such as declarative, interrogative, and exclamatory sentences.

  4. Grammar Sort: Create a chart with three columns labeled "Nouns," "Verbs," and "Adjectives." Find ten words related to Roman Emperors and categorize them accordingly. Share your chart and discuss why certain words fit into specific categories.
