Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to actively participate in Library story time, engage with the story, and develop a love for reading.

Materials and Prep

  • A selection of age-appropriate storybooks
  • A comfortable reading area
  • A small blanket or cushion
  • A timer or clock

Activities

  • Activity 1: Warm-up - Encourage the student to sit on the blanket or cushion and get comfortable. Explain that in Library story time, it's important to find a cozy spot to enjoy the books.
  • Activity 2: Storybook Exploration - Present a few storybooks to the student and let them choose one that catches their interest. Read the chosen book aloud, pausing occasionally to ask questions and encourage the student to make predictions about the story.
  • Activity 3: Story Retelling - After reading a book, ask the student to retell the story using their own words. This helps them develop comprehension skills and encourages creativity.
  • Activity 4: Character Exploration - Choose a book with interesting characters and engage the student in a discussion about their favorite character. Ask questions like, "What do you think the character is feeling?" or "What would you do if you were in the character's shoes?"
  • Activity 5: Story Extension - Encourage the student to create their own ending or continuation of the story they just read. Provide them with art supplies so they can draw or write their ideas.
