Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the biology of frogs and apply their knowledge to create a LEGO model of a frog.

Materials and Prep

  • LEGO bricks (various colors and sizes)
  • Reference materials about frogs (books, websites, etc.)
  • Paper and pencils for sketching

Prior knowledge required: Basic understanding of LEGO building techniques.

Activities

  1. Research: Encourage the student to explore different sources of information about frogs, such as books or websites. They should gather facts about frog anatomy, lifecycle, and habitat.
  2. Sketching: Have the student sketch out a rough design for their LEGO frog model. They should consider the different body parts and features they want to include.
  3. Building: Using the LEGO bricks, guide the student in constructing their LEGO frog model based on their sketch. Encourage them to be creative and use different colors and shapes to represent various frog characteristics.
  4. Presentation: Once the model is complete, have the student present their LEGO frog to the class or family. They should explain the different parts of the frog and how they relate to its biology.

  • Adaptations: "Frogs have various adaptations that help them survive in their environment. For example, their long hind legs are built for jumping, and their webbed feet allow them to swim efficiently. Can you think of any other adaptations that frogs have?"
  • LEGO Frog Model: "Now, let's talk about your LEGO frog model. How did you decide which features to include? Did you encounter any challenges while building it? What aspects of the frog's biology did you try to represent in your model?"
