Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and read words with the IR phonics pattern.
Materials and Prep
- Whiteboard or chalkboard
- Dry erase markers or chalk
- IR phonics word list (created by the teacher)
Activities
-
Word Hunt: Write a list of words with the IR phonics pattern on the board. Challenge the student to find as many words as they can within a given time frame. Encourage them to read the words aloud as they find them.
-
Word Sort: Prepare two columns on the board, one labeled "IR" and the other labeled "Not IR." Give the student a set of word cards and ask them to sort the words into the correct columns based on whether they have the IR phonics pattern or not. Discuss any words that they find challenging.
-
Word Building: Provide the student with a set of letter cards that include the letters needed to build words with the IR phonics pattern. Ask them to create as many words as they can using the given letters. Encourage them to read the words aloud and discuss their meanings.
