Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create and tell a story using puppets, improving their reading and storytelling skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Tape or glue

Before starting the lesson, make sure the student understands the concept of storytelling and has some basic knowledge of different characters and settings.

Activities

  1. Create Puppets: Instruct the student to draw and color different characters on paper. They can create animals, people, or any other creatures they like. Once the characters are ready, help them cut out the drawings and attach them to popsicle sticks using tape or glue.
  2. Setting Scene: Encourage the student to think of a setting for their story. They can draw and color a background on a separate sheet of paper. It can be a forest, a castle, or any other location they imagine.
  3. Storytelling Practice: Have the student practice storytelling with their puppets. They can start by introducing the characters and the setting, and then continue with a simple plot. Encourage them to use their imagination and make the story as creative as possible.
  4. Show and Tell: Once the student feels confident in their storytelling skills, have them perform their story for you or other family members. Encourage them to use different voices for the characters and engage the audience in their puppet show.
