Materials and Prep

  • Pen/pencil
  • Blank paper or notebook
  • Access to a computer or library for research (optional)

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Brainstorming: Have the student brainstorm a list of social norms they would like to question or challenge. Encourage them to think about issues or topics they feel passionate about.

  2. Research: If the student has access to a computer or library, they can conduct research on the social norms they have chosen to question. They can gather information, statistics, and examples to support their arguments.

  3. Writing Prompts: Provide the student with a series of writing prompts related to questioning social norms. They can choose one or more prompts to respond to in a short essay or creative writing piece. Encourage them to express their thoughts, opinions, and ideas in a clear and persuasive manner.

  4. Peer Review: Have the student exchange their writing with a peer or family member for feedback. Encourage constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement.

  5. Revision and Final Draft: After receiving feedback, the student should revise their writing, making necessary edits and improvements. They can then write a final draft of their piece.
