Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic arithmetic concepts while having fun learning about dinosaurs.

Materials and Prep

  • Dinosaur toys or pictures
  • Counting cards or number flashcards
  • Writing materials (paper, pencils, crayons)

Before starting the lesson, make sure the student is familiar with counting from 1 to 10 and basic shapes.

Activities

  1. Dinosaur Counting: Show the student different dinosaur toys or pictures and ask them to count how many dinosaurs are there. Encourage them to use their fingers or the counting cards to keep track of the numbers.

  2. Addition with Dinosaurs: Ask the student to select two dinosaur toys or pictures. Have them count the total number of dinosaurs and write down the numbers. Then, ask them to add the two numbers together and write down the sum.

  3. Subtraction with Dinosaurs: Choose two dinosaur toys or pictures again. Have the student count the total number of dinosaurs and write it down. Then, ask them to remove one dinosaur and count how many are left. Write down the subtraction equation and the answer.
