Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the historical significance of Nintendo, engage in pretend play related to historical events, and learn about the role of dogs in history.

Materials and Prep

  • Nintendo console or device
  • Paper and pencils
  • Books or online resources about Nintendo and historical events
  • Optional: Costumes or props for pretend play

Activities

  1. Explore Nintendo's History: Research and discuss the origins of Nintendo as a playing card company in Japan and its evolution into a video game company. Encourage the student to take notes or draw pictures to create a brief timeline of Nintendo's major milestones.

  2. Pretend Play: Choose a significant historical event or time period and encourage the student to create a pretend play scenario using Nintendo characters. For example, they can imagine Mario and Luigi traveling back in time to the ancient Egyptian civilization or the American Revolution. Encourage them to act out the scenario and explain the historical context behind their play.

  3. Dogs in History: Discuss the role of dogs in different historical contexts, such as their use in warfare, exploration, or as companions. Have the student research and share interesting facts about famous historical dogs, such as Balto or Laika.
