Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create their own dinosaur artwork using various materials and techniques.
Materials and Prep
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers or colored pencils
- Optional: Googly eyes, feathers, pipe cleaners, or any other craft materials
- Dinosaur books or online resources for reference
Activities
Create a Dinosaur Collage:
Show the student pictures of different types of dinosaurs from the books or online resources. Let them choose their favorite dinosaur. Provide construction paper, scissors, and glue. Instruct the student to cut out different shapes from the construction paper to represent different parts of the dinosaur's body (head, body, legs, tail, etc.). They can then glue the shapes together to create their own unique dinosaur collage.
Dinosaur Drawing:
Encourage the student to draw their favorite dinosaur using markers or colored pencils. They can refer to the dinosaur books or online resources for inspiration and guidance. Remind them to include details like scales, claws, and teeth. Once they finish, they can color it in and add any additional features they like.
Dinosaur Puppet:
Suggest the student create a dinosaur puppet using construction paper, markers, and any additional craft materials they have available. They can cut out a dinosaur shape, decorate it, and attach a craft stick or straw to the back to create a handle. They can then use their puppet to act out dinosaur scenes or tell stories.
