Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a better understanding of the game Dungeons and Dragons and be able to create their own character.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pen/pencil
  • Dice (at least one 20-sided die)
  • Access to online resources or books about Dungeons and Dragons

Prior knowledge of basic arithmetic and imagination is helpful but not required.

Activities

  • Create a character: Guide the student through the process of creating their own character, including selecting a race, class, abilities, and background.
  • Explain game mechanics: Discuss the basic rules of the game, such as how to use dice for checks and combat, and how to interpret character sheets.
  • Sample adventure: Provide a short adventure scenario for the student to play through, either as a solo activity or with a friend or family member acting as the Dungeon Master.
  • Encourage creativity: Have the student come up with a backstory for their character, including their motivations and goals.
  • Role-play scenarios: Engage the student in role-playing exercises to develop their character's personality and decision-making skills.
