Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand basic arithmetic concepts through fun snowman-themed activities.
Materials and Prep
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers or crayons
- Optional: Buttons, ribbon, or other craft supplies for decorating the snowman
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Create a Snowman: Help the student cut out circles from construction paper to create a snowman. They can then decorate it using markers, crayons, and craft supplies.
- Addition Snowballs: Cut out several small circles from construction paper. Write numbers on each circle. Ask the student to add two snowballs together and place the resulting snowball on the snowman.
- Subtraction Snowballs: Similar to the previous activity, but this time ask the student to subtract one snowball from another and place the resulting snowball on the snowman.
- Counting Buttons: Give the student a handful of buttons and ask them to count how many buttons they have. They can then glue the buttons onto the snowman to match the number.
