Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to explore different cultures through cooking recipes from around the world.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer or smartphone with internet access
  • Pen and paper for note-taking
  • A kitchen with basic cooking utensils and ingredients

No specific prior knowledge is required for this lesson, but having an interest in cooking and different cultures will be helpful.

Activities

  • Activity 1: Research - Use the internet to research different countries and their traditional recipes. Choose at least three countries that interest you and find one recipe from each.
  • Activity 2: Recipe Selection - Select one recipe from the three countries you researched. Consider the ingredients, cooking methods, and cultural significance of the dish. Write down the chosen recipes.
  • Activity 3: Cooking - Prepare one of the recipes you selected. Follow the instructions carefully and try to replicate the dish as authentically as possible. Take note of any challenges or interesting techniques you encounter during the cooking process.
  • Activity 4: Reflection - After cooking and tasting the dish, reflect on your experience. Write down your thoughts on the taste, texture, and overall enjoyment of the dish. Consider how the recipe reflects the culture it comes from.
