Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze and evaluate health and fitness-related reading materials, and demonstrate comprehension through written responses.

Materials and Prep

  • Health and fitness-related reading materials (books, articles, or websites)
  • Pen and paper or a computer for writing

Activities

  1. Reading and Summarizing: Choose a health or fitness-related article or book chapter to read. After reading, write a brief summary of the main ideas and key points. Include any new vocabulary words you encountered.

  2. Comparing Perspectives: Find two different articles or sources that discuss a similar health or fitness topic. Read both sources and write a comparison essay highlighting the similarities and differences in their perspectives and arguments.

  3. Debating Health Issues: Research a controversial health or fitness topic that interests you. Write a persuasive essay presenting your viewpoint on the topic, supported by evidence and logical reasoning.

  4. Creating Infographics: Choose a health or fitness concept or statistic that you find interesting. Create an infographic using online tools or by hand to visually represent the information. Include relevant images, graphs, and key facts.
