Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concepts of government and citizenship, and how they relate to their everyday lives. They will also be able to identify the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
Materials and Prep
- LEGO bricks (various colors and sizes)
- Pen and paper
- Access to a computer or tablet for research

Activities
- LEGO Government Building: Have the student use LEGO bricks to construct a government building. Encourage them to think about the different parts of a government building, such as the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.
- Citizen Responsibilities: Ask the student to create a LEGO scene depicting different responsibilities of a citizen, such as voting, obeying laws, and participating in community service.
- Research: Have the student research different forms of government, such as democracy, monarchy, and dictatorship. Ask them to write a short paragraph about each form of government and present their findings.
- Citizenship Pledge: Ask the student to create a LEGO flag and write a citizenship pledge. The pledge should include promises to be a responsible and active citizen.
