Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the basics of dress design and create their own simple dress design.

Materials and Prep

Activities

  • Activity 1: Research Famous Fashion Designers
  • Encourage the student to research and learn about famous fashion designers from different eras. They can create a short presentation or write a paragraph about their favorite designer.

  • Activity 2: Create a Mood Board
  • Have the student create a mood board using magazine cutouts or printed images that represent their style and inspiration for dress design.

  • Activity 3: Design Your Own Dress
  • Guide the student to sketch their own dress design. They can experiment with different silhouettes, fabrics, and embellishments.

  • Activity 4: Present and Explain Your Design
  • Ask the student to present their dress design to you or other family members. They should explain their inspiration, the elements they incorporated, and any special features of their design.
