Materials and Prep

  • White paper or drawing pad
  • Colorful markers or crayons
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Rainbow-themed storybook
  • Calculator (optional)

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Create a Rainbow Artwork: Use the colorful markers or crayons to draw a beautiful rainbow on the white paper or drawing pad. Be creative and add clouds and other elements if you like.
  2. Write a Rainbow Story: Imagine you are a rainbow and write a short story about your adventures in the sky. Include details about the colors you see and the places you visit.
  3. Cut and Paste Rainbow Collage: Cut out various colored strips of paper and arrange them in the shape of a rainbow. Glue them onto another piece of paper to create a colorful collage.
  4. Explore Rainbow Math: Use the calculator (optional) to practice addition and subtraction with rainbow-themed numbers. For example, if red is 5 and blue is 3, what is the total when you add them together?

  • "Rainbows can also be seen in waterfalls, fountains, or even in the mist created by a garden hose on a sunny day."
  • "Art can be a great way to express your creativity and capture the beauty of rainbows. Have fun drawing and coloring your own rainbow artwork!"
  • "Writing allows you to use your imagination and create stories. Imagine what it would be like to be a rainbow and let your creativity flow as you write your story."
  • "Creating a collage is a fun way to play with colors and shapes. Cut out strips of paper in different colors and arrange them to form a rainbow. Use your scissors and glue to bring your collage to life."
  • "Math is all around us, even in rainbows! You can practice addition and subtraction by assigning numbers to each color of the rainbow and solving problems. Challenge yourself to come up with your own rainbow math puzzles!"
