Objective
The objective of this lesson is for the 4-year-old homeschool student to learn about construction through fun activities in English, Math, Physical Education, and Social Studies.
Materials and Prep
- Toy construction vehicles (if available)
- Building blocks or Legos
- Paper and crayons/markers
- Construction-themed books or pictures
- Construction-related videos (optional)
- Prepare a safe play area for physical activities
Activities
English: Read a construction-themed book together. Ask the student to identify different construction vehicles and objects in the pictures.
Math: Use building blocks or Legos to create simple structures. Count the number of blocks used and ask the student to identify shapes and colors.
Physical Education: Set up an obstacle course using furniture or cones. Pretend to be construction workers navigating through the course, climbing over "rocks" and crawling under "pipes".
Social Studies: Show pictures or videos of different types of construction projects (houses, bridges, etc.). Discuss the importance of construction in our communities and how it helps improve our lives.
