Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand and use basic New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) greetings and introductions.
Materials and Prep
- No additional materials are needed for this lesson.
- It would be helpful for the student to have a quiet and distraction-free learning environment.
- No prior knowledge of NZSL is required.
Activities
- Activity 1: Learn the NZSL Alphabet - Teach the student the fingerspelling alphabet of NZSL. Practice fingerspelling different words and names.
- Activity 2: Greetings and Introductions - Teach the student common NZSL greetings and introductions such as "Hello," "Goodbye," "My name is...," and "Nice to meet you." Practice using these phrases in conversations.
- Activity 3: Role Play - Create scenarios where the student can practice using the greetings and introductions in a realistic context. Encourage the student to be creative and have fun with the role play.
- Activity 4: Watch NZSL Videos - Show the student videos of native NZSL users signing greetings and introductions. Discuss any differences or variations in signing style.
