Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 1 year old homeschool student will have a basic understanding of self-regulation and be able to engage in simple activities that promote self-regulation.
Materials and Prep
- No additional materials are required for this lesson.
- Ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment for the student.
Activities
- Activity 1: Deep Breathing - Encourage the student to take deep breaths by inhaling and exhaling slowly. Model deep breathing and make it a fun activity by pretending to blow out candles or blow bubbles.
- Activity 2: Sensory Play - Provide the student with different sensory materials such as playdough, water, or rice. Allow them to explore and manipulate the materials using their hands. This activity helps them engage their senses and regulate their emotions.
- Activity 3: Music and Movement - Play calming or soothing music and encourage the student to move their body in response to the music. They can sway, dance, or simply tap their feet. This activity helps them release energy and promotes self-regulation.
- Activity 4: Mirror Play - Sit in front of a mirror with the student and make funny faces together. Encourage them to imitate your facial expressions. This activity helps them develop self-awareness and emotional regulation.
