Materials and Prep

  • Pen or pencil
  • Blank paper or notebook
  • A favorite storybook or a story you would like to analyze

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have read the storybook or chosen story so you can easily refer to it during the activities.

Activities

  1. Activity 1: Story Element Scavenger Hunt

Go on a scavenger hunt in your chosen storybook or story to find examples of different story elements. Write down or draw the examples you find on your paper or notebook.

  2. Activity 2: Character Analysis

  3. Activity 3: Plot Diagram

Create a plot diagram to visually represent the story's plot. Divide your paper or notebook into sections for the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Fill in each section with a brief description of what happens in that part of the story.

  4. Activity 4: Setting Description

Choose a specific setting from the story and write a detailed description of it. Include information about the location, time period, weather, and any other important details that help create the setting.
