Materials and Prep

  • Access to a computer or smartphone for research
  • Optional: US history textbook or online resources

Activities

  1. Research a US historical event of your choice and create a timeline of the major events leading up to and following the event. Include key dates, people, and their roles.

  2. Choose a US historical figure and create a short biography about their life and contributions. Include their background, achievements, and impact on US history.

  3. Write a fictional diary entry from the perspective of a person living during a significant US historical event. Include their thoughts, emotions, and experiences during that time.

  4. Create a visual presentation (poster, slideshow, or video) highlighting the major milestones of the American Civil Rights Movement. Explain the key events, leaders, and the impact of the movement on society.

  • The American Revolution: "The American Revolution was a war fought by the American colonies against Great Britain for independence. It resulted in the formation of the United States of America in 1776."

  • The Civil War: "The Civil War was fought between the Northern states (Union) and the Southern states (Confederacy) from 1861 to 1865. It was primarily fought over the issue of slavery and resulted in the abolition of slavery and the preservation of the Union."

  • The Great Depression: "The Great Depression was a severe economic downturn that lasted from 1929 to the late 1930s. It was triggered by the stock market crash of 1929 and led to high unemployment rates and widespread poverty."

  • The Civil Rights Movement: "The Civil Rights Movement was a social and political movement in the 1950s and 1960s that aimed to end racial segregation and discrimination against African Americans. It was led by influential figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks."

  • The Cold War: "The Cold War was a period of political tension and rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union from the late 1940s to the early 1990s. It was characterized by the arms race, proxy wars, and the ideological conflict between capitalism and communism."
