Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 4-year-old homeschool student will be able to draw a basic face with the correct placement of facial features.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or colored pencils
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Activity 1: Draw your own face
- Activity 2: Draw a friend's face
- Activity 3: Create a silly face
Ask the student to use crayons or colored pencils to draw a picture of their own face. Encourage them to include eyes, nose, mouth, and any other facial features they would like to add.
Have the student choose a friend or family member and ask them to draw that person's face. Remind them to pay attention to the placement of the facial features.
Encourage the student to let their imagination run wild and create a silly face. They can exaggerate the features or add fun elements like a big smile or wacky eyebrows.
Talking Points
- Our face has different parts. Can you point to your eyes, nose, and mouth?
- When we draw a face, we start with a circle for the head. Can you draw a big circle?
- Now let's draw the eyes. They are usually in the middle of the face. Can you draw two big circles for the eyes?
- Next, let's draw the nose. It goes below the eyes. Can you draw a small triangle for the nose?
- Finally, let's draw the mouth. It goes below the nose. Can you draw a curved line for the mouth?
- Great job! You've drawn a face! What other features would you like to add to make it special?
