Objective

By the end of this lesson, the 4-year-old homeschool student will be able to draw a basic face with the correct placement of facial features.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Crayons or colored pencils

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  • Activity 1: Draw your own face
  • Ask the student to use crayons or colored pencils to draw a picture of their own face. Encourage them to include eyes, nose, mouth, and any other facial features they would like to add.

  • Activity 2: Draw a friend's face
  • Have the student choose a friend or family member and ask them to draw that person's face. Remind them to pay attention to the placement of the facial features.

  • Activity 3: Create a silly face
  • Encourage the student to let their imagination run wild and create a silly face. They can exaggerate the features or add fun elements like a big smile or wacky eyebrows.

Talking Points

  • Our face has different parts. Can you point to your eyes, nose, and mouth?
  • When we draw a face, we start with a circle for the head. Can you draw a big circle?
  • Now let's draw the eyes. They are usually in the middle of the face. Can you draw two big circles for the eyes?
  • Next, let's draw the nose. It goes below the eyes. Can you draw a small triangle for the nose?
  • Finally, let's draw the mouth. It goes below the nose. Can you draw a curved line for the mouth?
  • Great job! You've drawn a face! What other features would you like to add to make it special?
