Objective

By the end of this 10-week Math lesson plan, you will be able to understand and calculate time differences between different time zones.

Materials and Prep

Prior knowledge required: Basic understanding of time, including hours, minutes, and the concept of time zones.

Activities

  • Activity 1: Time Zone Map Exploration
    Use the world map or globe to locate different time zones. Identify major cities in each time zone and note the time difference from your own time zone.
  • Activity 2: Time Zone Conversion Practice
    Choose a few cities from different time zones and practice converting their local time to your own time zone. Use pen and paper to write down the calculations.
  • Activity 3: Virtual Travel Planning
    Imagine you are planning a trip to a city in a different time zone. Research the local time and calculate the time difference from your own time zone. Create an itinerary for your trip, considering the time difference.
  • Activity 4: Time Zone Puzzles
    Solve time zone-related puzzles or quizzes available online or in books. These will help reinforce your understanding of time differences and time zone calculations.
