Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe various African animals, while engaging in physical activities related to their movements and characteristics.
Materials and Prep
- Animal picture cards or printouts
- Open space for physical activities
Activities
-
Animal Charades: Have the student choose an animal card and act out the movements and sounds of that animal while others guess which animal it is.
-
Animal Race: Set up a start and finish line in the open space. Call out an animal name and have the student run, hop, or crawl like that animal to reach the finish line.
-
Animal Yoga: Demonstrate and guide the student through simple yoga poses inspired by African animals. For example, do a "lion pose" by stretching arms and legs out like a lion's paws.
-
Animal Sound Match: Play an audio recording or imitate the sounds of different African animals. Have the student match each sound to the correct animal picture card.

- "Let's start by playing Animal Charades. You will pick a card with an animal picture, and then act like that animal. Can you make the sound too? Let's see if we can guess which animal you are!"
- "Now, we will have an Animal Race. I will call out an animal name, and you have to run, hop, or crawl like that animal to reach the finish line. Ready, set, go!"
- "Next, we will do some Animal Yoga. I will show you how to do different yoga poses that resemble African animals. Let's stretch and move like the animals together."
- "In this activity, we will listen to different animal sounds. I will play a recording or imitate the sounds, and you have to match each sound to the correct animal picture. Are you ready to listen and match?"
