Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and recognize numbers in their home environment through a fun scavenger hunt activity.
Materials and Prep
- Pen or pencil
- Paper or notebook
- Timer (optional)
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
Activity 1: Number Scavenger Hunt
Explain to the student that they will be going on a number scavenger hunt around their home. Give them a specific time limit if desired.
Encourage the student to search for numbers in various places such as on clocks, calendars, books, appliances, or any other objects with numbers.
As they find each number, have them write it down in their notebook or on a piece of paper.
Once the time limit is up or they have found a certain number of numbers (e.g., 10 numbers), gather together and review the numbers they found.
Activity 2: Number Sorting
Using the numbers they found during the scavenger hunt, ask the student to sort them into different categories. For example, they can sort numbers based on odd/even, greater than/less than 5, or by tens.
Encourage them to explain their sorting criteria and discuss their choices.
Activity 3: Number Art
Using the numbers they found, have the student create a number-themed artwork. They can draw, color, or cut out the numbers and arrange them in a creative way.
Display their artwork in a prominent place to celebrate their achievement.
