Objective

Materials and Prep
- Mario Kart video game or access to an online version
- Pen/pencil and paper
Before starting the lesson, make sure the student has a basic understanding of addition and subtraction.
Activities
- Activity 1: Counting Coins
- Activity 2: Race Lap Times
- Activity 3: Item Boxes
Using the Mario Kart game, have the student collect coins during a race. After each race, ask the student to count the number of coins they collected. Practice adding different numbers of coins together.
Have the student race in Mario Kart and record their lap times. Ask them to calculate the total time for completing a certain number of laps. Practice addition and subtraction with lap times.
During a race, have the student collect item boxes. Ask them to count the number of item boxes they collected in a race. Practice adding different numbers of item boxes together.
