Materials and Prep
- Pencil
- Blank paper
- Calculator (optional)
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Activity 1: Counting Tickets
Imagine you are at a fall fair and you want to go on different rides. Create a list of 5 rides you want to try and assign each ride a number of tickets needed. For example, Ride 1 may require 3 tickets, Ride 2 may require 5 tickets, and so on. Calculate the total number of tickets you would need to go on all the rides.
-
Activity 2: Budgeting for Treats
Think about the delicious treats you can find at a fall fair. Make a list of 3 treats you would like to buy and write down their prices. Calculate the total amount of money you would need to buy all the treats. If you have a budget of $10, determine if you have enough money to buy all the treats or if you need to make some choices.
-
Activity 3: Estimating Game Prizes
At the fall fair, there are various games where you can win prizes. Choose one game and estimate the number of prizes you can win in 10 tries. Then, calculate the total number of prizes you would win if you played the game 20 times.
