Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to communicate effectively by using interpersonal conventions and language with familiar peers and adults.
Materials and Prep
- No additional materials required.
- Ensure the student is comfortable and in a quiet learning environment.
Activities
- Role Play: Encourage the student to pretend to be in different scenarios, such as a restaurant or a doctor's office, and practice communicating with familiar peers or adults in those situations.
- Show and Tell: Have the student bring an item from home and ask them to describe it to you using complete sentences. Encourage them to use appropriate language and interpersonal conventions while speaking.
- Story Time: Read a storybook together and pause at certain points to ask the student questions about the characters' feelings or actions. This will help them practice expressing themselves and engaging in conversations.
- Telephone Game: Play a simplified version of the telephone game where the student whispers a simple sentence to you, and then you whisper it back to them. Repeat this a few times to demonstrate how messages can change when not communicated clearly.
