Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create an art piece inspired by different types of music and express why you made certain artistic choices based on the music.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Paper, crayons/markers/colored pencils, music player with a variety of music genres.
Prep: Set up a comfortable workspace for creating art and have a selection of music ready to play.
Activities
1. Listen to different genres of music such as classical, jazz, pop, and rock. While listening, draw or paint what the music makes you feel.
2. Create an abstract art piece inspired by a favorite song. Use colors and shapes to represent the mood and rhythm of the music.
3. Have a dance party to upbeat music and create a colorful, energetic art piece that reflects the joy of the music.
Talking Points
- Music can make us feel different emotions. For example, happy music might make us feel excited and want to dance. "How does this music make you feel?"
- Art can be inspired by things we hear, like music. "What colors would you use to show how this song sounds?"
- Just like music has different styles, art can also be created in different styles. "How would you draw a sad song differently from a happy song?"
- When you listen to music, you can imagine a story in your mind. Use that story to create an art piece that goes along with the music. "What story do you see when you listen to this song?"
