By the end of this lesson, you will be able to form legible joined letters to develop handwriting fluency.

Materials and Prep

  • Pencil
  • Plain paper
  • Eraser

No prior knowledge required, just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn!

Activities

  • Warm-up with Air Writing: Stand up and use your finger to draw big joined letters in the air. Say the letter names as you write them.
  • Trace and Copy: Write each letter of the alphabet in joined form on the paper. Then, trace over the letters and try to copy them next to each traced letter.
  • Word Practice: Write simple words like "cat", "dog", and "sun" in joined letters. Practice writing these words neatly and fluently.
  • Drawing with Letters: Get creative and draw simple pictures using only joined letters. For example, draw a house using the letters of the alphabet.

Talking Points

  • Letter Formation: "Let's start by forming each letter carefully. Remember, some letters join at the top and some at the bottom."
  • Practice Makes Perfect: "The more you practice, the better your handwriting will become. Take your time and focus on neatness."
  • Have Fun: "Handwriting can be fun! Try to make your letters look like they are dancing on the page."
  • Ask for Help: "If you're finding it tricky, don't worry! Ask for help and keep trying. You'll get better with practice."
