Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and tell time using an analog clock.
Materials and Prep
- An analog clock
- Paper and crayons
- No prior knowledge needed
Activities
Draw your own clock on a piece of paper. Make sure to include all the numbers and the hour and minute hands.
Practice telling time by setting the clock to different hours and asking a family member to guess the time.
Create a daily schedule on paper with different activities at different times. Use your clock to show when each activity will happen.
Talking Points
"Analog clocks have two hands - the short hand shows the hour and the long hand shows the minutes."
"When the short hand is pointing to the 12, it's o'clock. Can you point to other o'clock times?"
"The long hand moves faster than the short hand because it counts the minutes. Can you count by fives to see where the long hand will be?"
"Remember, the hour hand is the boss and tells us the hour. The minute hand follows and tells us the minutes."
