Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to explore their creativity and understanding of diversity through an engaging art activity inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.
Materials and Prep
- 1 brown egg
- 1 white egg
- Optional: markers or crayons for decorating
- Prep: Boil the eggs beforehand and let them cool down
Activities
Start by showing the student the brown and white eggs. Ask them what they think the inside of each egg looks like. Encourage them to think creatively and express their ideas.
Discuss with the student the importance of diversity and how people come in different colors, just like the eggs. Emphasize that it's our differences that make us unique and special.
Let the student choose an egg to decorate. They can draw faces, symbols, or patterns on the egg to represent unity and diversity. Encourage them to be imaginative and have fun with their design.
Once the decorating is done, have a mini art show where the student can proudly display their Martin Luther King Jr inspired egg creation. Discuss each egg and the story behind the design.
Talking Points
- "Just like the eggs we see here, people come in all different colors. And that's what makes each of us special and unique!"
- "Martin Luther King Jr. believed that we should treat everyone with kindness and respect, no matter what they look like. Can you think of a way to be kind to someone today?"
- "When we use our imagination to create art, we can share important messages and ideas with others. What message do you want to share with your egg design?"
- "Let's remember Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream of a world where everyone is treated fairly and equally. How can we help make that dream come true?"
