Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to explore and understand the role of music in the community.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed:

  • Toy musical instruments (e.g., drums, shakers, xylophone)
  • Music player or access to music online
  • Space for dancing and moving around

Prep:

  • Prepare a playlist of different types of music
  • Clear a space for dancing and playing instruments

Activities

1. Musical Parade: Have a parade around the house or yard with the student playing their chosen instrument.

2. Dance Party: Play different types of music and encourage the student to dance and move to the beat.

3. Guess the Instrument: Play different musical instruments sounds and have the student guess which instrument it is.
