  • Drawing paper
  • Crayons or markers
  • Optional: A simple map or drawing of Bikini Bottom

Introduction: Life Under the Sea!

Hi there, super historian! Today, we're diving deep under the sea to visit our friend SpongeBob SquarePants in Bikini Bottom! Did you know Bikini Bottom is like a town, or a community, just like where we live? A community is a place where people (or sea creatures!) live, work, and play together.

Activity 1: Who Lives in a Pineapple (and Around It)?

Let's look at our SpongeBob friends! Bikini Bottom is their community. Who lives there?

  • SpongeBob: He works at the Krusty Krab. That's his job! He's a fry cook. He helps feed the fish in Bikini Bottom.
  • Patrick Star: He's SpongeBob's best friend and neighbor. Friends and neighbors are important parts of a community!
  • Squidward Tentacles: He works with SpongeBob at the Krusty Krab as a cashier and is also SpongeBob's neighbor.
  • Mr. Krabs: He owns the Krusty Krab restaurant. He's a business owner! Businesses provide things people need or want (like Krabby Patties!).
  • Sandy Cheeks: She's a squirrel scientist living underwater! Scientists help us learn new things. She's also a good friend.
  • Mrs. Puff: She runs a Boating School. She's a teacher! Teachers help us learn important skills.

See? Everyone has a role or a job, and they all live together in the community of Bikini Bottom. Can you think of people who have jobs like these in *our* community?

Activity 2: Rules of the Reef

Even in Bikini Bottom, they have rules! What are some rules?

  • Maybe there are rules at the Krusty Krab (like washing your hands!).
  • Mrs. Puff tries to teach rules for driving boats safely.
  • There are rules about being a good friend and neighbor (like being kind!).

Why do communities need rules? Rules help keep everyone safe and happy, just like rules help SpongeBob (usually!) stay out of trouble. What rules do we have in our home or town?

Activity 3: Draw Your Community!

Let's get our paper and crayons! You can draw Bikini Bottom and some of the characters we talked about. Where do they live? Where do they work? Or, you can draw *our* community! Draw our house, maybe a park, a store, or a school. Who helps in our community? Maybe draw a firefighter, a doctor, or a teacher!

Conclusion: Back to the Surface!

Wow! We learned that Bikini Bottom is a community with different members who have jobs and roles, just like our town! We also learned that communities have rules to help everyone get along and stay safe. Great exploring today, historian!
