Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to construct a geometric pattern and record the results in a table of values.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed: pencil, ruler, graph paper
No prior knowledge required, just bring your creativity!
Activities
1. Start by drawing a square on the graph paper. Use your ruler to make sure the sides are equal in length.
2. Inside the square, draw a smaller square that is half the size of the original square.
3. Continue this pattern by drawing smaller squares within each new square you create.
4. Record the side length of each square in a table of values as you go along.
Talking Points
- Let's start by drawing a big square. Remember, all sides of a square are equal in length. So, make sure each side is the same.
- Now, inside this square, let's draw a smaller square. This new square should be half the size of the big square.
- Each time we draw a new square inside the previous one, we are creating a geometric pattern. It's like a sequence of squares getting smaller and smaller.
- As you draw each square, record the length of its side in a table. This will help us see the pattern more clearly.
