Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand how different parts come together to form a whole, using numbers up to 10.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Colorful markers or crayons
- Basic understanding of numbers 1-10
Activities
Draw a big circle on the paper. Let's think of this circle as our whole. Now, let's divide the circle into parts using numbers 1-10. Color each part differently.
Let's play a game! I will say a number, and you draw that many parts inside the circle. For example, if I say "3", draw 3 parts inside the circle.
Now, let's count together! Count the total number of parts we have drawn inside the circle. Can you tell me how many parts are there in total?
Let's create a number story! Pick a number between 1-10 and draw that many objects inside the circle. Then, tell me a story about those objects and how they come together to make a whole.
Talking Points
- "Imagine our circle is like a pizza. When we cut it into slices, each slice is a part of the whole pizza!"
- "Let's use our markers to show how the numbers help us divide the circle. Numbers are like magic tools that help us understand how things are connected!"
- "When we count the parts inside the circle, we are figuring out how many pieces make up the whole. It's like solving a mystery!"
- "Creating a number story is like being a detective. We are putting together clues (parts) to solve the mystery of the whole picture!"
