Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recognize and pronounce simple words using Lego phonics.

Materials and Prep

  • Lego bricks with letters
  • Flat surface for building with Legos
  • Enthusiasm and creativity!

No prior knowledge needed, just be ready to have fun with Legos!

Activities

  • Build your name: Use Lego bricks to spell out your name. Say each letter out loud as you place it.
  • Letter matching: Create simple objects with Legos (e.g., a house, a car) and match the beginning letter sound to the Lego letter.
  • Word building: Pick a simple word (e.g., cat) and build it with Lego bricks, saying each letter sound as you add it.

Talking Points

  • Letters make sounds. When we put them together, they make words!
  • Say the sound of each letter as you build with Legos. For example, "C says /k/."
  • Let's spell your name with Legos! What sound does the first letter make?
  • Can you find the Lego letter that matches the sound of the object we built?
  • Great job! You are a Lego phonics master!
