Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a scrap journal page that combines English, History, and Math elements in a creative way.
Materials and Prep
- Scrap journal or notebook
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Old magazines or printed images
- Markers or colored pencils
- Ruler
- No prior knowledge required
Activities
- English Element: Choose a historical figure or event that interests you. Write a short creative story or poem inspired by this figure/event.
- History Element: Research a significant historical event and create a timeline on your scrap journal page.
- Math Element: Calculate the ratio of different elements on your page (e.g., text area to image area ratio).
For example, if you choose Abraham Lincoln, you could write a poem from his perspective during the Civil War.
Include key dates, facts, and images related to the event.
Experiment with different layouts to see how it affects the ratios.
Talking Points
- English Element: "Let's explore how we can use our creativity to write a story or poem based on historical figures or events."
- History Element: "Today, we will dive into the past and create a visual timeline to showcase a significant historical event."
- Math Element: "Math can be fun and creative! We will calculate ratios on our scrap journal page to see how different elements interact."
