Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply scientific understanding and critical thinking skills to suggest possible solutions to identified problems.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed: Pen and paper
Prep: None
Activities
- Observation Challenge: Spend 10 minutes observing your surroundings and jot down any interesting patterns or problems you notice.
- Problem Identification: Choose one observation and identify the problem it presents. Write a brief description of the problem.
- Solution Brainstorm: Think creatively and come up with at least 3 possible solutions to the identified problem.
- Solution Evaluation: Evaluate each solution based on feasibility, effectiveness, and ethical considerations.
Talking Points
- Observation Challenge: "Take a few minutes to carefully observe your surroundings. What catches your attention?"
- Problem Identification: "Now that you've made an observation, let's identify the problem it presents. What issue does it highlight?"
- Solution Brainstorm: "Let's get creative! What are some out-of-the-box solutions that come to mind for the identified problem?"
- Solution Evaluation: "It's important to consider how practical, effective, and ethical our solutions are. Let's evaluate each one based on these criteria."
