Objective

By the end of this lesson, your 1-year-old homeschool student will be able to recognize and name colors inspired by Roald Dahl's stories.

Materials and Prep

Materials:

  • Colorful items around the house (e.g., toys, clothes)
  • Roald Dahl books or images

Prep:

  • Set up a cozy reading area with the Roald Dahl books or images.
  • Gather the colorful items to use during the activities.

Activities

1. Colorful Storytime: Read a Roald Dahl story to your child and point out the different colors mentioned in the story.

2. Color Hunt: Hide colorful items around the room and encourage your child to find and name the colors.

3. Color Sorting: Sort the colorful items into different groups based on their colors and talk about each group.

  • Quotation: "Look at the red apple! Can you say red?"
  • Quotation: "Let's find something blue like the sky. Where is something blue?"
  • Quotation: "This is a yellow toy. Can you say yellow?"
  • Quotation: "Green like the grass! Can you point to something green?"
  • Quotation: "Orange like the sun. Can you find something orange?"
  • Quotation: "Purple like the grapes. Where is something purple?"
